Our new paper entitled "Surface EMG-based quantification of inspiratory effort: a quantitative comparison with Pes" has just been published in Critical Care. We have investigated the relationship between surface EMG and inspiratory muscle effort in patients under assisted mechanical ventilation. Our findings support the use of surface EMG as a straightforward and non-invasive method for monitoring patient effort.
This paper has been published in collaboration with the IME fellows Eike Petersen and Philipp Rostalski as well as colleagues from the Klinikum Konstanz Franziska Farquharson, Max Kustermann, Hans-Joachim Kabitz and Stephan Walterspacher.
