The IME partners with various German research institutes and companies in the publicly funded research project "MOMENTUM - Mobile Medical technologies for Integrated Emergency Care and Medicine". The aim of the MOMENTUM project, which is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research with 6,6 Mio. € is to develop and evaluate suitable concepts and technologies for networking emergency medical treatment along the process chain from the point of care to the hospital. Within this project the IME investigates a drone-based mobile repeater infrastructure. The aim is to automatically measure the network performance in order to relay the signal and to increase the range of a mobile cell. In this way it is possible to overcome radio gaps due to coverage in rural areas or due to blockage in urban areas, e.g. by buildings. The overall project is coordinated by the Innovation Center Computer Assisted Surgery (ICCAS) in Leipzig. The responsible research associate at the IME is M.Sc. Jonas Gruner supervised by Prof. Dr. Philipp Rostalski.
