Baltic Future Port
As part of the “Baltic Future Port” project, it is planned to develop a concept for testing 5G technologies at the port of Lübeck. The handling processes at the port are essentially IT-supported. Particularly in security areas, the processes must be improved utilizing very high-resolution video streams and highly accurate position and situation recording. The integration of a large number of devices poses a particular challenge.
The Institute of Electrical Engineering in Medicine and the Competence Center CoSA of the University of Applied Sciences are responsible for conducting accompanying research for the project. By combining modelling and simulation with modern, drone-based measurement technology and intelligent, model-based evaluation algorithms, a 5G installation can be automatically operated and monitored in line with the application and thus the demand. The network load in 5G networks and disturbances and shadowing can lead to data loss and, thus, to potentially critical errors in the application. For safety-critical process flows in the port, it is crucial to estimate the network quality in advance and monitor it through continuous quality monitoring. Research aims include increasing the reliability and dependability of such a system by implementing and demonstrating it in the test field at the Port of Lübeck.
